Anna Deavere Smith to Deliver New Solo Performance at Center Stage

On December 5 and 6, Anna Deavere Smith will debut her solo performance, “Notes from the Field: Doing Time in Education, The Baltimore Chapter,” at Center Stage. The performance will be comprised of material collected through Smith’s interviews with more than 100 individuals in Baltimore who are affected by what has been commonly named the “school-to-prison pipeline.” According to the American Civil Liberties Union, “there are policies and practices that push our nation’s schoolchildren, especially our most at-risk children, out of classrooms and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems.”
